My Fijian Family

I just got a quick note from my Fijian friend Elenoa (pictured with us here just as we were leaving for the airport to come home).

Elenoa was the concierge and duty manager at the Naviti Resort. She is the same age as I am, married to Siri, and has four children, Iowane,Alberta (named after her grandfather Albert, not after one of the Canadian provinces), Paulene (my Fijian baby), and Miriam. We got to know Elenoa quite well at the Resort, but we really got to know everyone over two days of driving around Viti Levu and shopping in Suva.

Iowane is 8 years old and although it took him and Morgan some time to bond, once they started playing Uno and Pictureka together, they were solid.

Alberta is 5 years old, so her and Tess were instant friends.

Pauline is 3 and I said I'd take her to Canada with me as we instantly connected and I fell right in love with her strong spirit.

And the baby Miriam (happy in Elenoa's arms) is one.

Somehow I missed getting Siri in any of our photos, but I will have plenty of chance when he comes to Surrey, BC in July for the Fijian Soccer tournament and Fiji Day celebrations. He plays in a band that will be coming to play here during those celebrations.

And this is what my cuddles would look like if I had 5 kids. I think I could pull it off. Pauline fell asleep in my arms, I think Alberta had a snooze on me too, but woke up just before we took this photo and the rest just piled in around us.

And the four fast friends...I really need to organize some pen-pal activities between these kids, I can only imagine how the friendship could grow and last.
